"A Unique Mission Requires a Unique Strategy"
In 2005, the world watched as the most active, destructive, and expensive Atlantic hurricane season in recorded history unfolded over the second half of that year, along with a record breaking 7 days into the next. When activity finally ceased, it wasn’t before an estimated 4,000 fatalities took place throughout 15 countries, not to mention entire cities that were left in ruins. That season also initiated a massive multinational humanitarian response throughout the affected regions, the likes of which had never been seen for a single hurricane landfall. This left many asking, “How can we help?”
That year, myself along with an old friend were in our third year of university and decided to continue a joint venture. A venture that would take us straight into the eye of each storm as it made landfall in an effort to capture the most destructive forces as they were happening. This then was rapidly uploaded to mass media outlets by various means. Out of the 31 classified tropical cyclones of 2005, our venture took us into five of the strongest, and at the end of that season, we too asked, “How can we help?”
Today, as the scope of the organization has expanded far beyond what I could have ever imagined, it has been emboldened by the model, “a unique mission requires a unique strategy.” This is the foundation of every endeavor we take to contribute to the cause of improving the quality and potentially saving the lives of those impacted by the extreme forces of nature.
